Administration of cobalt chloride on the selected enzymes in the silk gland of silkworm, Bombyx mori L

چکیده

The effect of cobalt on the lactic, pyuruvic acid contents and activity levels of aldolase, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) and isocitrate dehydrogenase (ICDH), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6-PDH) and glutamate dehydrogenase ( GDH) were studied. The decrease in the lactic acid content and increase in the pyruvic acid content in the silk gland of experimental silkworm larvae was suggestive of the formation of pyruvate either from lactate through elevated operation of NADLDH activity or from amino acids through transamination ( Pushpa Rani, 1997). The increased activity of the aldolase in silk gland of treated larvae indicates the active turnover of hexoses to trioses, which are channeled to glycolysis. The elevation in the activity levels of all the dehydrogenases were correlated with the increased oxidative metabolism in the silk gland.
